About Allen

I have lived in Cumberland County and the 4th District for most of my life.  My background includes everything from working on an assembly line during college, to owning a small business, to being a manager at one of Cumberland County's largest manufacturing employers. I have participated in daily profit/loss meetings, and have years of experience creating and living with budgets in the business world and in government.  I am currently a Systems Analyst at Roane State Community College.

Cumberland County Board of Education: 2002 – 2006: I was elected to the Cumberland County Board of Education in August of 2002.  While on the BOE, I was elected Chairman of the Board for three consecutive terms.  I led the BOE through the process of building a new high school from initial needs assessment to campus completion.  I worked with the County Commission to gain approval for funding and worked with the construction management firm throughout the entire building process.  To date, this is the largest building project ever undertaken by Cumberland County at $23 million.  This was done without a tax increase.  I also oversaw the budget process annually for an approximate $40 million budget, creating three balanced budgets in my terms as Chairman.  After completing SMHS, attaining SACS accreditation for our schools, developing a salary matrix for non-certified employees, getting BOE policies posted online, and helping attain Board of Distinction status, I chose not to run for a second term of office.
